Could you have diabetes? Warning signs and what you can do

Diabetes is the fastest growing chronic condition in Australia with one person diagnosed every five minutes.
In Australia around 1.8 million people have diabetes, and many are not even aware of it. That’s because symptoms might go unnoticed for years.
Do you know the signs?
If you’re at risk of diabetes because of family history, diet or lifestyle, it’s a great idea to keep an eye out for some of the early warning signs.
These can include:
Feeling thirstier than normal
Feeling tired or lethargic
Urinating more than usual
Having blurred vision
Increased hunger
Unexpected weight gain
Diabetes is a condition where the levels of sugar (glucose) in the blood are too high or uncontrolled. Learn more about Type 2 Diabetes and find lots of helpful resources at the Diabetes Australia website.
Over time, untreated diabetes can lead to complications, so it’s important to get tested before other serious health problems develop.
Pharmacist and Diabetes Educator Jennifer Cao advises that having diabetes diagnosed at an early stage means quicker action and better outcomes for people with type 2 diabetes. Watch this video for more expert diabetes advice.
