Thanks to COVID-19, we’ve all become pretty good at getting vaccinated but unfortunately the COVID vaccination provides no protection against influenza.
Winter is on the way, and that means it’s time to roll up your sleeve once again. Flu season will be here before you can say “ker-choo”.
The flu affects each person differently, ranging from mild cold-like symptoms to fever, fatigue, chills, hospitalisation with complications or worsening of existing medical conditions.
Over recent years, cases and deaths from flu have dropped dramatically as a result of travel restrictions, lockdowns, social distancing, masks and other public health measures.
However with travel restrictions now lifted, and people returning to work and socialising, the likelihood of flu returning this year is much higher.
Here’s what you can do:
The peak efficacy of the flu vaccine is from 3-4 months after your vaccination. Australia’s flu season generally begins in June and peaks in August, so that means the best time to get vaccinated is from April onwards.
